E. R. Braithwaite was a Guyanese-born British-American writer, educator, and diplomat, best known for his 1959 memoir 'To Sir, with Love,' which recounts his experiences as a Black teacher in a London secondary school. The book was adapted into a successful 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier. Braithwaite also served as Guyana's ambassador to the United Nations and wrote other works including 'Paid Servant' and 'Reluctant Neighbors.'
